I have one extremely vivid holiday memory from when I was little. I was in elementary school, all dolled up in my Lord & Taylor’s finest, and we were getting ready to leave for my choir concert. The Little Drummer Boy was on television and I was eating those really yummy Christmas cookies that I can’t seem to find anywhere anymore, or at least not locally to Charlotte. You know the ones, they were called ‘Jingles’ and shaped like bells, wreathes, etc… with red and green sugar crystals on them. They were great but, more importantly, I recalled this memory every time my daughter had school holiday concerts approach.

I love the high pitch sounds of children’s choirs. Random fact: boys choirs are probably my all time favorite because of how their voices sound prior to them hitting puberty. One of the, many, reasons I love Home Alone 2 is for the Christmas Star song that plays every time Kevin is feeling a bit home sick and rethinking his life choices to be on his own vacation.

She hasn’t been lost in New York, or anywhere other than a Target or grocery store while looking for something she wanted me to buy. She also hasn’t needed to ponder her life choices with a beautiful choir in the background, but she did sing some beautiful Christmas songs as part of the choir all throughout elementary school just as I did.

To band school holiday concerts

Middle School became extra exciting the moment she realized the band went to Disney World to perform during 8th grade year, so it was out with choir and in with the saxophone. Unfortunately, this image is from her last band concert that took place the 1st semester of her 8th grade, which also happened to be the school holiday concert. It had gotten too difficult to play all of sudden, which we later realized was a result of her Myasthenia Gravis becoming generalized rather than just effecting her eyes.
