Angel Flight |Some heroes have wings to fly

JetBlue plane on the tarmac

Our family is huge fans of superheroes – Marvel of course with a hint of DC sprinkled in. It always seems so simple how someone swoops in to save the day or flys the person away to a safer location. If only life-saving transportation were that easy. With Angel Flight, it can be.

Angel Flight is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven, organization that arranges non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions at no cost to the family. I didn’t realize there was such a thing but they have been our saving grace throughout the processes of obtaining treatment for Victoria’s Myasthenia Gravis.

This past Monday she and I finally journeyed to Boston for her appointment with her new Pediatric Neurologist, Dr. Ghosh, at Boston Children’s Hospital. With Myasthenia Gravis being so rare, there are limited professionals who are well versed in how to treat it. While there do seem to be a decent amount of adult Neurologist in the state, the amount of Pediatric Neurologist is severely lacking, which took our search out of state.

Through Angel Flight, we were able to secure both of our roundtrip tickets (hers as the patient and mine as her companion) to Boston via JetBlue and even after a last-minute testing request pushed our flight back a day, JetBlue made it incredibly easy to change our tickets to a flight 2 days later. The organization and JetBlue alleviated all of the stress I had regarding how we were going to pay for tickets to Boston – none of which I could find at a price that wouldn’t break the bank.

For all my other Myasthenia Gravis warriors out there, there are superheroes looking out for you and they don’t wear capes, but they can provide you with cost-saving medical transportation. Thank you to Angel Flight NE chapter and JetBlue.
