Blogmas | Christmastime in Georgetown DC

Blogmas; Christmastime in Georgetown DC; Christmas

It’s funny. I was looking back at my pictures for this 2017 trip and, if it weren’t for the handful of Christmas decorations I captured here and there, the pictures could have easily been from any point in time that you’d see snow in DC. Somehow, I managed to get a ton of food pictures, taken mostly from the outside looking in … I swear we went in and ate too, we didn’t just stare longingly from the sidewalk … but we did, in fact, spend Christmastime in Georgetown DC and it was like walking through a storybook.

This trip was actually the first of many Christmastime trips to DC. We’d been a few times before, always staying in a different area to explore before cozying into the West End/Georgetown area. We typically stay at the Hilton Grand Vacation property that’s conveniently nestled inside of the Embassy Suites and right on the outskirts of Georgetown where you can easily walk or hop a $1 DC Circular that will also lead you into Rosslyn, VA. With the complimentary breakfast in the morning, and evening reception around dinner time, you really only have to worry about lunch … unless you’re craving local, which we obviously were.

Quick breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien

First stop was Le Pain Quotidien where we got amazing fresh baked muffins, fruit tarts, and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was a bit too bitter for my liking but their baked goods more than made up for it. It was like Panera Bread, except a bit better.

Sweets for now and later at Sprinkles and Laduree

I jumped right into dessert from there with a stop at Sprinkles after seeing all the Christmas themed cupcakes through the window. If it’s a holiday, I’m such a sucker for anything related to that holiday that happens to be out during that time. I feel like Sprinkles knew this and placed out all of the Christmas cheer for me. While I devoured a gingerbread cupcake in store, they had mini holiday cupcakes that I took back to the room for later.

I went to Laduree for the macarons but was captivated by the beautiful cakes. I feel like the pictures speak for themselves and answer why I ended up with a couple of these and a box of macarons.

Lunch at Boulangerie Christophe

We stopped into Boulangerie Christophe for amazing sandwiches and a really great Parisian café. There’s a restaurant upstairs but we just stayed down in the café area in a cozy little table by the window where we could pretend we were in France for the amount of time it took us to enjoy our food. Everything was amazing and there were a wealth of selections to choose from. I imagine we wouldn’t have gone wrong with anything.

Actual Christmas activities

We did actually do and see Christmas things one would do while spending Christmastime in Georgetown DC. We walked around at night to see the Georgetown Glow installation. We went to Martin’s Tavern, which felt like Christmas on steroids with all the decorations covering every surface possible.

We happened upon a dark alley with the most amazing jazz supper club, Blues Alley, that we were lucky enough to get tickets to on last minute notice. I will say, the music was amazing, the drinks weren’t bad, but the food left so much to the imagination. We weren’t hungry but you had to spend a certain amount, so we tried a few things on the menu hoping we’d like a couple but no cigar. The artist, ambiance, and experience as a whole, completely made up for it. we capped off the night with cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes because can you really go to Georgetown and not brave the line for a bite of a Georgetown Cupcake, cupcake?

Have you spent Christmastime in Georgetown DC? What was your favorite thing to see or do? Mine was definitely Blue’s Alley, walking the cobblestone streets, and having amazing French fare. While you’re here, check out yesterday’s Blogmas post and, as always, thank you for reading!

Feeding Your Body and Mind with SoulCycle

To my delight, we spent a week and a half in DC, which always means good food, usually means walking, and sometimes means making my way to the hotel gym. Because we were there in…
