The Darcy Hotel :: Eclectic Elegance in Washington DC

You wouldn’t know by looking at the stunningly beautiful, eclectic decor of The Darcy Hotel that it recently underwent a renovation from The DoubleTree by Hilton to become a Curio Collection property, Hilton’s independent luxury brand and I can attest, they certainly outdid themselves.

When we arrived the morning of the last night of our trip, it was still a bit early, so we were unable to check in, but the Front Desk Associate let us know they’d have someone go up to get our room ready for us while they held our bags for us to explore the area or we were welcomed to enjoy their coffee shop, Lil B’s Coffee and Eatery … we opted for the latter not knowing how long it would take, but not wanting to be too far in case it was sooner rather than later.

We received a call shortly after finishing our order, so we made our way back to the desk to retrieve our keys and make our way to our one bedroom, city view suite overlooking Scott Circle.

THE ROOM

The room was spacious, beautiful, and modern, with everything you could possibly need including a wet bar and snacks. I usually shy away from getting anything from the wet bar, knowing the price of inflation and convenience is all too real, but Nathan actually drank a couple of the craft beers that turned out to be cheaper or comparable to what he had seen them at, at the store.

Just when I thought the room couldn’t possibly get any better, I rounded the corner and went into … the bathroom.

Now, I’m not one to sit around spending copious amounts of time in the bathroom because, well, it’s the bathroom and I make it a point to get in and get out, but this bathroom was a dream. I only wish we’d had enough time to grab some flower petals, essential oils, and soak in the over-sized tub.

While there wasn’t time for that, there was most certainly time to enjoy the large enough for 2, shower with its rain-like faucet and heavenly, Five Wits, shower products.

Unlike most hotels, it wasn’t the smaller bottles that tend to get used once and tossed  … at least I’m assuming that’s what happens if people don’t toss them in their luggage … it was 3 large bottles, a shampoo, a conditioner, and a body wash, that were available for purchase if you loved them enough that you wanted to take them home with you.

I was excited to see they did have a smaller version of lotion on the counter that I may or may not have tossed into my purse after feeling how great it made my hands feel … sorry, not sorry.

The spa-like self-pampering doesn’t stop there, there were branded robes provided in the closet in the event you didn’t want to immediately pop back into your clothes and in my case I didn’t, given it was quite chilly outside and I preferred to bask in the warmth of our  DC oasis until the cocktail tasting.

THE COCKTAIL TASTING

The cocktail tasting, scheduled from 5:30 – 6 pm every evening, is a complimentary treat for guest to enjoy the hotel’s signature cocktail made with locally sourced ingredients.

THE SIREN

We finished up our drinks and moved on to grab a seat at The Siren, their in-house restaurant and one of DC’s best new restaurants for 2017.

First off, the decor is stunning and almost makes you feel like you’ve managed to find your way into The Little Mermaid, but the chic version of it for adults.

Not being big on seafood, either one of us, we opted to simply do drinks and mine was a refreshing blend of Beefeater, elderflower, arugula, simple syrup, and lime juice, also known as “2401” on the menu. A bit out of my box, but I loved the lingering floral taste of the elderflower and how pretty is it?!

Being a lightweight, and having to get up early to make our way to Union Station the next morning, we retired for the night to the softest bed that even an insomniac like myself was able to get the best sleep on.

From the rainy day umbrella in the closet to the home like throw pillows in the living room, The Darcy Hotel has truly thought of everything to create the perfect home away from home vacation, or staycation, while in Washington DC.

Oh my goodness that bathtub! The whole bathroom is a dream, but that tub! I would have been guilty of staying in to use that. I love the cocktail tasting that the hotel does too. So classy!
